Balayage vs. Ombre....What's the difference?

I have had a few people inquire, "What is balayage?". Balayage is the technique of free hand painting the color on vs the traditional foil highlights. It typically gives a softer sun kissed look. You also may be wondering, "Well, then what is ombre?". Ombre is the look of darker at the root blending into lighter at then ends. This look ranges greatly, from subtle to extreme. This trend has been around for a while now. I have to admit I've really resisted it thinking it just looks like you have 6 months of regrowth! Now it has "grown" on me (heehee) and I'm coming to see that if done well can be gorgeous! In conclusion, Balayage is the technique and Ombre is the effect. I hope that clears up some confusion!
